Soft cervical collar
Soft cervical collar, soft neck brace},{
A soft cervical collar is a foam rubber band that sits around the neck and is fastened with a Velcro closure. The collar supports the neck.
When do you wear a soft cervical collar?
In many cases, it is actually good to (continue to) move the neck, because this keeps the blood flow and the condition of the muscles and joints up to standard. But sometimes it is necessary to support the neck temporarily and therefore to wear a soft cervical collar. For example, in osteoarthritis, a whiplash, or after surgery in this area.
After that, it is important to start moving again slowly to build up the mobility of the neck. Soft cervical collars are also good for protecting the neck during sleep.
What does a soft cervical collar do?
A soft cervical collar supports the cervical spine. The collar also limits the freedom of movement so that the neck gets rest. This relaxes the neck muscles and reduces pain symptoms. Soft cervical collars are more comfortable than rigid collars and still allow some movement. It is usually not necessary to wear a soft cervical collar 24 hours a day.
Discuss with the treating doctor or physical therapist how long the collar should be worn.
For more serious neck conditions, there is a rigid cervical collar. This provides more protection, does not allow movement, and must be worn all day.
